In 2018, one of our tenth grade Rising Stars students, Vandana Chari took first place in a video competition for Coder Girls International with the Spectune; a fully programmable LED-enhanced bow that responds to the high and low sound frequencies of her violin.

Student Reflection
For 4 years I have struggled with assessing the dynamic levels of the notes being played. The inventor in me kept whispering that there is a better way to do this. Only if I could create some sort of visual indicator for the dynamic level of the note, I could “see” the note I am playing as opposed to having to “hear” the note. That type of visual feedback would make it easier to assess the dynamic level and adjust accordingly.
